| Long Sleeve Shirt
Keeps the sun and bugs off. Popular opinion claims earth-tones prevent spooking the fish. Roll up the sleeves if you get warm.
Quick drying pants
For wet wading end of June through the end of August.
Light weight wind/rain coat
Preferably one that packs up. The early mornings and late evenings can get chilly, and since the fish are already wet, no need to stop angling in the rain. Besides, it's hard to tie on a fly when you are hypothermic...
Hat and bandana
All fishermen wear hats. The sun in your eyes and on your head makes for uncomfortable fishing. I put a few dashes of Ole Time Woodsman on my designated fishing hat and bandana and the black flies do not bother me.
Sunglasses
Polarized are best. You don't need to spend a lot. But there's a trick to buying good cheap ones. hold them with the back of the lens (the inside) facing up toward a florescent light (most stores have them overhead). Look at the reflection of the light on the lens. Is it a smooth curve or kind of wavy? Wavy reflections mean poorly formed lenses and can lead to eye strain. The whole idea of the glasses is to avoid that problem.
I have Maui Jim's and Action Optics (by Smith for $120) but also a very cheap pair ($15) for back-up. The MJ's and AO's are more comfortable and fit me better, but the cheap-o's work in a pinch.
Water bottle
Most streams might be potable, but I suggest BYO.
For the Water
Waders
Are nice to have in cool weather but unless you're cold blooded the water temperatures are generally in the 60's and the air, the 70-80's. You will need waders for float tubing.
Felt soled boots
If you have studded felt soles you're even better off. The rocks in the rivers and streams can get slipperier than pig snot. If you are handy, get some 1/4 inch self-tapping screws and put them in the sole. Screw them right in to the felt in a pattern around the sole. Be sure to avoid putting one in the center of the heel, it's pretty uncomfortable. Check out a picture of studded boots on the web.
